Strong Historical Society Facts

Founded:
The Strong Historical Society was founded in 1971.

Mission:
The purpose is discovering, procuring, and preserving arts, artifacts, and natural history of Strong and the surrounding countryside.

The town has a rich history deeply set in the farming and lumbering cultures.

Collections:
Collections include artifacts, documents of former mills and mill owners; agricultural implements, paintings, and school memorabilia.

The Vance & Dorothy Hammond Memorial House, the society's museum, is a 19th century residence that the society acquired in 1983. It is furnished and decorated in period style. Additional exhibit rooms are located in three levels of the barn and the attic.

Facilities:
The Vance & Dorothy Hammond House on Main Street is a museum and houses the society's collections and meeting rooms.

Activities:
The SHS meets on the first Wednesday of the month from March to December, preceded by a potluck supper.
